I know, I know, it's a cheesy thing to want, but what I really wanted was a way to cool my beloved LS800 while it was in its dock. Even when docked, or perhaps especially when docked and on AC power, the LS800 can get hot. Many people have suggested that a fan in the docking station would have been a good idea. Not only did I agree, I thought a USB fan might be a good kludge to make it work.
The thing couldn't be simpler to use. Plug it into a USB port and the fan turns on. It's that simple. When using it in the LS800 dock, though, you get a cool benefit. (bad pun!) The USB ports are only powered with the LS800 is docked, so you can leave the fan plugged into the dock's USB port all of the time and it only runs when the system is docked. Handy feature!
As for functionality, it works great. I can be docked at a pretty high brightness setting for hours at a time and it doesn't even get warm. I loaded Office 2007 Beta 2 (another story!) from an external CD and it didn't even get warm. Considering it was a free giveaway, I'm very happy with it. I've seen them online for about $10 or so, and it would be worth considering for those special occasions when you need to keep your LS800 nice and cool.
